Wow, wow, wow....If you think this is a Bettman or a Campbell decision for this outcome, you are sadly mistaken. This is all the owners that want some form of hitting in the game, for the simple fact that is pays the bills. At what expense you ask? The life or should I say death of a player, star or everyday grinder. One day there will be a death and the owners will wash their hands of this and blame the league as a whole.

I believe the NHL missed the boat completly on this Cooke hit, because there is no mention of head shots using the shoulder. So lets say that I am a goon on the Canadiens and I pad my shoulderpads to make them a few ounces heavier. What will that do? It will add a few pounds to the hit with the added momentum. The result could be a broken neck, complete concusion level 2 and a longshot - death.

Will the league punish me for this, noy on your life because the fans got what they wanted a clean hit.

What I am trying to say is we need a clearcut rule that will be applied by the refs at all times and during the full season. And yes, maybe we should make all 4 refs on the ice accountable and graded for their performance or sometimes lack of. We pay the high price tickets, so we deserve a fair and unbias game calling from the refs.
